Fully Surrender!

Most people know the story of Jonah, God wanted him to go and preach repentance to the people of Nin-e-veh, but Jonah did not want to, so he fled. You may think 💭 why in the world did he do that, he should have known that God sees all, and this is true, and Jonah knew this well, but he was human. He was human and just like us, he didn’t see the whole picture that God sees. Because we can’t possibly know what God sees, we will often slip up and misjudge. So Jonah being human did what humans do, he didn’t trust God enough to leave that town in God’s hands so he disobeyed and left. Maybe he thought that God would get someone else to do it but God wanted Jonah.

So, Jonah boards a ship, and as you know, there came up a great ⛈ storm and those people were scared 😳 to death! They were tossing things over, and then they knew that there must be something or someone that was the cause. Sometimes in our lives, troubles or fears will come our way. We look on the situation with our earthly eyes, and we try to fix it. Trying to solve a Spiritual problem with physical answers will never work.

Finally those guys realized that there was more to the situation, things beyond their sight and reach were going on. They cast lots to see who was the one for which the ocean 🌊 was in such turmoil and the lot fell on Jonah. In Jonah chapter 1:12 Jonah says this, “And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.” Jonah knew what the problem was and it probably made him sick to his stomach, but he knew. We know when we’re not obeying God, but facing it can be troublesome and uncomfortable 😣. See unbelief is a sin, doubting God is a sin, and not putting things in His hands is the root of our problems, and like the men did in verse 13, they continued to try hard in their own strength to solve the problem. Sometimes we don’t want to except the answer that God is giving us, but friends we must, not because He is a strict God that wants His own way, but because He knows what is best!

Verse 15,”So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the raging sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.” We must come to the point where nothing else is important except God, we must cast away all things that are holding us back (and we know what they are), and we must be obedient.  Cast them away and throw open our arms to God and fully surrender. When we  do the sea will calm and we will have peace.
